If you find yourself reading this blog, chances are you’re someone who cares about the health of your hair, but sometimes, even the most well-meaning naturalista makes an oopsie when it comes to her curls.
Find out if you’re one of the naturalistas Chrissy’s looking at by reading about 5 common hair mistakes that lead to breakage.
Towel Drying
If I were you, I would think twice about grabbing that towel to dry your tresses. Believe it or not, the coarse texture of a traditional bath towel is rough enough to lift the hair’s cuticle layer and damage the hair shaft! This can lead to dry hair, frizz and worst of all, breakage. Save your curls from split ends by investing in a microfiber towel or reaching for an old T-shirt instead.
Using the wrong hair tie
Listen to me Naturalistas: Rubber bands will never get along your curls. Using a rubber band to secure your do is asking for breakage, but that doesn’t mean reach for the hair tie with a metal clasp either. To avoid unnecessary tugging on your strands, I recommend grabbing a pack of seamless elastic hair ties or my favorite, ribbon ties, to keep your style in check, but more importantly, your curls safe.
Forgoing the satin bonnet/scarf at night
Sleeping on a cotton pillow case
Using Direct Heat
Now this one seems self-explanatory, but you’d be surprised by how many people are unaware of the damage they are doing to their hair when using tools like blow dryers and hot rollers without a care in the world.
All I’m saying is: PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
What other common mistakes are damaging our hair? What’s your solution?
